How to Parallel Park in the Sane Lane!

How we help reduce stress in the Sane Lane.

Let’s do some driving!

While each student is different and so lessons are often modified to cater to individual needs, still there is a general framework to our lesson structure.

Lesson 1: A quick chat and some driving on quiet streets to determine where we’re at. Then we’ll proceed to an introduction to parallel and 90 degree backing parking. We’ll also do some general driving to cover a variety of driving components.

Lesson 2: We’ll do some more parallel and 90 degree parking. We’re ready…let’s go onto an easy freeway. I know of some stretches that are not so intimidating as others, and we’ll practice riding along the “gentle river of cars” as I like to say. It’s actually quite relaxing. We’ll also cover uphill and downhill parking as well as other more random aspects of driving.

Lesson 3: Once more, we’ll practice the different types of parking. Also we’ll brush up on some specifics relating to the road test. And for the grand finale…we’ll take a more difficult freeway ride to some one-way streets. For sure you’ll be ready, and for sure I’ll be there to make sure you’re safe and at ease.

Then…Road Test

Let’s show them what we’ve got!

After we are finished with lessons, you will be issued a white card. It’s time for the road test! Show up with the confidence and great attitude you’ve developed during your lessons and you’ll do great! The following are instructions from the state of Minnesota regarding the testing procedures:

Before your appointment, pre-apply online for your driver’s license; it can save you a lot of time after you pass the road test.

  • Make sure you’ve practiced, and practiced some more, so you’re ready to pass your road test the first time. About 25 percent of 16-year-olds fail their class D road test every year, and that rate increases for older age groups.

  • Make sure your vehicle is clean and in safe working condition (think working seat belts, doors, lights and turn signals), and that your registration is up-to-date.

  • Bring your valid instruction permit; current proof of insurance; and check, money order, or cash for the driver’s license fee. You’ll also need to know your social security number.

  • If you’re under 18, you’ll need to bring your certificate of course completion (white card) and signed supervised driving log.

  • Make sure you arrive on time

By selecting “Week” at the top right corner of the calendar, you’ll improve the visibility of the blocks of time available.
